On Location or On-Site
We can offer training at our location in Smeeton Westerby, where we will show you how to set up a simple home studio, or on location at your premises.
In both cases we will show how to get the very best results out of your camera equipment and available lighting. We will also provide you with a lighting and set up diagram plus a list of any specialist kit you will need.
Camera Equipment required
What equipment will I need?
You will require a minimum level of equipment to attend one of these courses. If you do not have the necessary kit we can provide a simple studio set up for demonstration purposes and a shopping list so you can buy the kit before or after the course. Ideally you will need:
A Digital SLR camera
A separate flashgun or studio lights
A sturdy tripod
A background and stand
A selection of clamps
White Reflecting Card
What if I don't have everything?
We will advise you on any special equipment when you book. We can always use our camera kit and provide you with a shopping list plus suggested suppliers during the course.
Is there any support after the course?
We offer 30 days reasonable email or phone support after the training day. You can also email us pictures for comments.
Why is it more expensive for you to travel to us?
Because I need to allow for extra travel time, extra set-up time, fuel, expenses and lugging a car load of gear around.

About the tutor
My name is Glen Tillyard and I'm an award winning professional press photographer and trainer with over 30 years experience.
I now specialise in running photography courses helping novice photographers to get the very best from their digital camera by taking them off the full auto setting and showing them how to take exciting, creative photographs in just one day.
This is achieved using the Universal Zoom System which will improve your photography in five simple steps. You can see some of my pictures as the headers on this website or better still take a look at some of the excellent photograph galleries of previous students. I look forward to seeing you on one of our small and friendly courses very soon.
Regards, Glen
PS. All our one day camera courses now include a free pocket sized guide to landscape, action & portrait photography.
DSLR Photography Private Tuition > more
Most of our one day photography courses have six students using a variety of Digital SLRs. As we need to cater for a range of cameras these courses need to be more generic. Private one to one photography tuition is just you, me and your camera. These courses are specially tailored to your personal requirements and specific camera. Everything from the normal beginners and intermediate group photography courses is covered plus the practical photography sessions are about twice as long. More Info >
DSLR Photography Plus Photoshop Tuition > more
The DSLR Photography plus Photoshop Tuition course follows the same basic structure as the normal one day 121 photography course but the practical photography exercise time is reduced to allow for a 2-3 hour Photoshop session. These session are flexible but normally include basic image adjustments using Levels and Curves, Image Size, Resolution & Quality & Cropping for the web & print. More Info >
Portrait & Low Light Photography > more
This very popular portrait photography and low light combined course features a portrait photography session in the afternoon followed by the night-time photography session in the evening. We will show you how to take great portraits by available light, flash and candle light before moving onto the low light and night time photography course after dark. Your own tripod would be helpful for both session but we do have a couple of spares. A light supper is provided.
DSLR Photography - Using RAW & HDR > more
The Digital SLR Photography plus RAW & HDR course concentrates on landscape photography using the RAW file format & Higher Dynamic Range (HDR) techniques. These intensive photography & Photoshop courses are aimed at capturing the wide range of highlights and shadows not normally available in a normally exposed JPG image. At the end of this course you should be able to produce exhibition quality images for print or web use. The courses a run using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. More Info >
Digital SLR Product Photography Course >more
There is no substitute for employing a professional photographer and this would be our first recommendation. We do understand that on many occasions it is not always practical or cost effective to employ a professional just for a quick portrait or product shot. Our product photography training courses can be held at our location or at your premises. This could save you £££s in time and money in professional photography fees. We are also able to extend the course with Photoshop tuition. More Info >
Photoshop Private Tuition >more
One of the most widespread comments we get from students is that the pictures they take don't look like those they visualise. Sadly this is often due to the limitations of the camera. Our Photoshop courses help you to realise your photographs full potential by adjusting the colour, contrast and composition in Photoshop to present a more realistic image. We also have a popular courses in image restoration which can transform old or damaged photographs.

A really useful day. I now have a greater understanding of my camera and it's nice to know I can contact you with questions in the future once I've had the time to digest the information.
Carol Smith
This photography course explained all the settings and the best picture composition tips I needed. Glen ensured no one left without all of their questions being answered- Including me.

Hi Glen. I'm just dropping you this note to say how much I enjoyed today. The course answered all my questions and has given me the confidence to go out and use my camera properly. Today has turned my box of expensive gadgets into top class photography equipment. Thanks!

Ivan Last
A good balance of technical and practical information with enough detail for the experienced camera user without losing the beginners interest. A great course for getting the best out of my DSLR.
Iain Carpenter
Glen is extremely knowledgeable. There is an awful lot to take in and it's difficult to remember it all on the day but with extra practice and the provided notes your photography will surely improve. I feel much more confident as a result of this course.
Steve Envis
An excellent course and I will definitely be attending further courses at a later date.
Brian Smith
An easy to follow and understand course which covered all the aspects I wanted. The friendly group worked together well to make it a most enjoyable day and experience.
Glen Parrish
A very good beginners or refresher course for those new to a digital SLR or for someone moving on from film.
Tim Roebuck
I enjoyed the day thoroughly and after four years of owning a digital camera I learned more in one day than I had in the previous four years. At last I can understand what I'm doing and I look forward to producing much better photographs.
