Mermaid Photography Course Sun 17th May 2015 - £150
This new course will show you how to take great images of mermaids and models underwater without getting yourself wet. No special camera kit or underwater housing will be needed. The course takes place at Bourne in Lincolnshire and I'll be looking at car sharing where possible as there are limited parking spaces.
Mermaid Photography Course Sun 17th May 2015 - £150
This half day course features one hour of training explaining the techniques required to get great images of the models underwater. We'll look at choosing the best white balance and ISO to use plus give you advice on avoiding reflections and movement.
This is followed by a one hour photo shoot with three models wearing different outfits, including mermaid outfits and dresses. I'll be on hand to ensure everything goes smoothly and answer any questions you may have during the shoot.
Morning and Afternoon Sessions
- The morning session starts at 9.30am and ends at 1pm.
- The afternoon session starts at 1.30pm and ends at 5pm
There's a good chance some of your images will need editing so after the photo shoot I'll give you some Photoshop tips and show you how to make the pictures look like they were not shot in a tank.
Book Your Mermaid Photography Course Here - £150
I have lots of additional costs on this course, including hiring the swim tank, lighting, models and safety staff so the cost of the shoot is £150 per half day. The format is a one hour training session, followed by a one hour photo shoot and then a one hour Photoshop and editing tutorial. During the Photoshop session I'll aim to show you how to edit the pictures so they don't look like they were shot in the tank.
To keep cost down we have to hire the tank for the whole day so I will be sharing the cost of the day with another group. They will be using the tank during our training sessions.
It's important to secure our spaces ASAP so I've included the option below for a non refundable £50 Deposit to secure your place. You can pay the balance before the course.
The Models (Sorry! Not real mermaids)
These are specialist underwater models who somehow manage to look fabulous underwater while holding their breath. The mermaid outfits costs several £1000 and are specially made for the girls. Each set uses different dresses so if you do choose multiple slots you will be able to photograph different outfits.
Required Camera Kit & Clothing
The good news is you do not need any special equipment or a flashgun. You will be fine with an 18-55mm lens or the Tamron 18-270mm zoom if you have one. If you do have a lens with a wider aperture, like a 50mm or a 24-70mm, then that is useful. You do not require a tripod.
Bring plenty of memory cards, and spare batteries if you have them, as I shot 800 images in one hour.
Clothing -This is important.
Reflections can be a big problem when photographing through glass so please wear dark comfortable clothing including dark trousers. There will need to be two rows of photographers and chairs are provided for the rear row. The front row will be kneeling and I'll take some carpet along to make it easier on the knees. It's recommended that you rotate during your session, if possible, to vary your pictures. If you have trouble kneeling then you should be able to remain seated.
Location - Bourne, Lincolnshire.
Cherry Holt Square
We will provide tea, coffee and fruit teas, plus a selection of biscuits. If you are lactose or gluten intolerant then please let us know in advance. No lunch is provided.
Health and Safety
Please don’t try to get into the tank! ;) We will have a trained First Aider onsite (Alex Stevenson) and will collect emergency contact details from you when you sign in. If you are mobility impaired or need any other assistance then please let us know in advance. We’re happy to help and anything you tell us will be confidential.
Model Release Forms
Non-commercial model releases will be provided as standard, permitting editorial and other non-commercial use. If you would like to read the full model release in advance then you can request it from Alex. It is possible to arrange commercial release but this would incur a fee additional to your photo shoot ticket.
Entry and Arrival Times
Please arrive 20 minutes before your allocated shooting time. This will allow you plenty of time to sign in and be shown the space before shooting starts.
This is a Level Two course so it is highly recommended that you attend one of our Beginners Photography Courses first. If you have attended a beginner’s course elsewhere please contact us first as our courses train you to a much higher standard than most other photography courses.
About the Tutor - Glen Tillyard
I'm an NCTJ qualified, award winning professional press photographer, college tutor & trainer with over 30 years experience in a vast range of photographic subjects.
I now specialise in running photography courses helping beginners to get the very best from their digital camera. I'm passionate about helping you to get off the full auto setting and I'll show you how to take stunning photographs in just one day.
Please don't take my word for how good these photography courses are but take a few moments to read some of the many testimonials in the right hand column of each page and the student galleries over on the left hand navigation column.
If you have any questions about photography or buying a camera then I'm happy to answer them without obligation.
