Hi [fname]
Welcome to the Digital Photography Courses Newsletter for February 2011.
A big welcome to all the lucky people who received a Digital Photography Course Gift Voucher for Christmas. I'm really looking forward to showing you how to use your camera to take better pictures.
As you can see from the web site we have taken lots of bookings for January and February and even had to put on an extra course in February. We are now taking bookings for March and April plus for the Bird and Landscape Photography Course at the AWBC at Rutland Water on Saturday April 9th 2011.
January Students can see their pictures here http://www.digitalphotographycourses.co.uk/2011-january-gallery.html
The next courses and dates are:

9th April 2011 sees the return of our very popular Landscape and Bird Photography Course at the Anglian Water Bird Watching Centre at Rutland Water. We run this course in April and September and it's a great opportunity to access the bird watching hides at the Centre and get some great shots of a wide variety of different birds.
We will show you how to photograph birds on a feeder and also snap a picture of a bird in flight and so far we have had a 100% success rate producing a picture similar to the one above taken by Martin Allen during the September 2010 course.
The course includes some really useful and practical tips on improving your landscape and bird photography. We do like people to have attended the beginners, course before attending this one, but it isn't essential. The beginners course includes a much wider overview of different technique whereas this course purely focuses on the best settings for bird, landscape and nature photography.
After reviewing your images and constructive feedback we will show you how to improve your images on a computer using some free software.

Portrait Photography Course
Following feedback from past students we are now running a dedicated Portrait Photography Course on Sunday 8th May from 10am - 5pm. Previously these courses have run from 2pm to 8pm and included the Night Photography Course.
Students are increasingly asking how to take portraits using studio flash and backgrounds so we are adding this to the course itinerary. After February we'll be running the portrait course as a full day course and using the extra time to take portraits using a simple studio flash lighting set up with black and white backgrounds. There will also be the chance to try out various professional flash techniques using bounced and direct flash. Your own dedicated flashgun with bounced head and a tripod are really useful additions for this course. We will also show you how to shoot pictures by available and window light.

This month’s project. Photograph the moon?
After last month's newsletter images of the solar and lunar eclipses I've had several people asking me how to photograph the moon. The good news is it's actually surprising easy to photograph a full moon and get reasonable results.
The first thing that might come as a surprise is just how bright a full moon is. There is a tendency to think that pictures of the moon at night need long exposures of several seconds. Indeed if you use your camera on the Full Auto setting then it will tend to give quite long exposures because of the large area of dark sky. This will result in the moon being over bright without any detail.
For a step by step guide to photographing the full moon visit the website at - www.digitalphotographycourses.co.uk/how-to-photograph-the-moon.html |
Save money and get cash back on cameras, lenses and much more with Quidco
Has anyone else started saving money with Quidco yet? My shopmeister Mrs tells me she's saved over £120 just on her normal shopping in the last two months so it seems to work.
We all like to save a few £££s on camera kit so I've just started using Quidco. It's a referral web site which you click through to a range of stores who then give you around 4% cash back on purchases. It's free to join and there is no obligation to buy so why not click on the link on the right and give it a try. |

"Thoroughly enjoyable course with good slides which will help as an aid to going forward. Glen is obviously very knowledgeable but also patient and not at all patronising. Fantastic, friendly and easy to understand. Hopefully with practice I can put all these new skills and tips to work. The group size was perfect and thanks to Jacqui for a great lunch." Kelly Dawe.
"First class instruction in a relaxed environment. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this course for any nervous beginners or anyone wanting to get better use from their camera." Doug Bailey
