This combintaion costs about £700 so there is a small charge of £25 to hire it for the course. We only have one spare camera and lens so please contact us first to ensure it is available then choose the Course and Camera option below.
Please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to attend a weekday Beginners Course.
Camera Course Suitable for the Complete Beginner
All our Digital SLR photography courses start off with the absolute basics and progress, step by step, through to some of the more technical aspects. Each camera operation or photography lesson is followed by a demonstration then a practical session.
After the camera and outdoor practical photography sessions we review the images and offer constructive feedback. This is followed by photo-editing tutorial where we will show you how to get the very best from your your photographs. Please visit the Student Photo Galleries to see picture from previous photography course students.
This Photography Course Will Show You How To:
- Choose the correct menus settings & when to use them
- Take a well composed portrait with a blurry background
so the focus is on the person.
- Take a well composed landscape with everything sharp or isolate a flower so it stands out from it’s background.
- Freeze the action at a sporting event or show movement
for a sense of speed and excitement.
- Take well exposed pictures indoors at a concert, museum
or church without using the flash

Hybrid or Bridge Photography Course
Most courses are mainly intended for Digital SLR users but we do sometimes get asked if Bridge or Hybrid cameras users can attend the Digital SLR photography courses. The proviso is that some of the more technical aspects of Digital SLR photography might not apply to the bridge camera but you will still find the course beneficial and enjoyable. If you are happy to accept these conditions below then you are welcome to attend. You will be informed during the course of any items do not apply to your bridge camera.
Is this photography course suitable for you?
1. If you want to understand the setting and the more technical aspects of your camera, as well as learning how to take better photographs, then you will be OK on the DSLR course. The proviso is that a few aspects of the DSLR will not apply to your camera, removable lenses etc.
2. If you really just want to take better pictures without getting too technical then please attend a compact camera photography course. This was the previous method. See here.
If you are not sure if you have a bridge camera then click here

"Buying an expensive camera is a hard choice and I wasn't sure what to look for. Hiring a camera from Glen meant I could spend a whole day working out what I really wanted from my camera. It was really worthwhile to do this, and after the day Glen answered several questions, and helped me find a camera I wanted within the price range I could afford. Thanks so much!" Sarah Seaton.

Tamron 18-270mm Superzoom. One lens for every occasion
I'm a big fan of the Tamron 18-270mm Superzoom which will save you having to buy and carry two lenses plus save you money in the long run on additional camera bags and filters. There is also less chance of missing those important shots because you are changing lenses. At about £270 this often works out cheaper than buying several lenses.
Our photography courses do tend to sell out quite quickly and are usually full. If you cancel up to two weeks before the course we can probably resell your place and book you on a later course. If for some reason you fail to turn up on the day we will have lost the income from your booking so no refund, or re-attendance, will be given. If you cancel within 48 hours but we will offer to any re-arranged attendance on another course at our discretion and subject to availability.
We will always aim to provide you with an alternative course where possible but In extenuating circumstances we may offer a partial or full refund at our discretion. Cancellation within 48 days means that it is unlikely we will be able to re-allocate your space and as such no refund is available.
If you notify us in good time you can choose to transfer to another course with available spaces. In the unlikely event we need to cancel a course you will be offered a full refund or the chance to attend another course.
A great hands on course which was very informative in a friendly atmosphere. I would recommend this course. 10/10 Mark Brown
This course covered much more than I expected but it wasn't rushed. Glen has a relaxed teaching style and if your not sure about anything he's patient and happy to re-track until you understand.
Course very well paced and every subject explained clearly. Glen was happy to explain any questions even if they were slightly off topic. Off to practise now. Paul Scola
A very lucid course which flowed well. I will remember to use the universal zoom.
Really useful. I feel much more confidant with the camera and it’s controls. I just have to work on the creative side. All together really enjoyable and informative.
This camera course made everything simple to understand and it makes you want to take the camera with you everywhere. I will look at landscape scenes from a totally different perspective now.
This Photography course offered the perfect mix of theory and practical photography. It's a brilliant way to learn how to take perfect pictures.
I would definitely recommend any amateurs wanting to learn how to use their cameras properly.
I thoroughly enjoyed the day and after four years of owning a digital camera I've learned more in one day than I had in the previous four years put together. At last I understand what I'm doing and I look forward to taking much better photographs.
A very informative and perfectly paced photography course. It absolutely met all my needs and requirement. Highly recommended. Trev Barton.
I'm an 18 year old student and I was worried about fitting in with the different age groups but everyone was very friendly and welcoming. This made me feel much more confident about taking photographs and I wasn't afraid to ask for any help. I loved my day and it was definitely worth flying over from Northern Ireland for the course.
"Glen was very patient and nice to spend the day with. Thank you for an absolutely brilliant day and thanks to Jacqui for lunch." Greta Powell.
"I found this course thoroughly enjoyable and educating. I wasn't overwhelmed with technical jargon but Glen also didn't try to teach me to suck eggs. After some more practice with my new found skills I will booking on a more specialist course."
"I enjoyed this course very much and it was very well presented in lovely surroundings. I feel a lot more confident now."
