Your Tutor - Glen Tillyard
I'm an NCTJ qualified, award winning professional press photographer, with over 30 years experience in a vast range of photographic subjects.
I've also taught and lectured in photography and Photoshop at many adult colleges and schools throughout Leicestershire. We also run specialist courses for police forces, Corporates and charities, including the British Red Cross.
We understand that different students have different learning styles so we use recognised teaching methods to ensure that whatever your needs we'll aim to get the message across, without using jargon, in a way you can understand.
I now specialise in running photography courses helping beginners to get the very best from their digital camera. I'm passionate about helping you to get off the full auto setting and I'll show you how to take stunning photographs in just one day.
Please don't take my word for how good these photography courses are but take a few moments to read some of the many testimonials in the right hand column of each page and the student galleries over on the left hand navigation column.
If you have any questions about photography or buying a camera then I'm happy to answer them without obligation.
Very best wishes,

Bridge/Hybrid Camera Users
Most courses are intended for Digital SLR users but we do sometimes get asked if Bridge or Hybrid cameras users can attend the Digital SLR photography courses. The proviso is that some of the more technical aspects of Digital SLR photography might not apply to the bridge camera but you will still find the course beneficial and enjoyable.
If you are happy to accept these conditions then you are very welcome to attend. You will be informed during the course of any items do not apply to your bridge camera.
Please contact us, without obligation, if you have any question.
Get off Auto & take great photos in just one day - £135
Many novice photographers use their expensive Digital SLR Camera on the Fully Auto setting and are often disappointed by the results. Our jargon free Digital Photography Courses will explain in simple terms when to use all the other settings and we'll show you how to take stunning photographs, you will be proud to hang on your wall, in just one day.
Camera & Lens Hire - Nikon with 18-270mm lens
The aim of these courses is to teach you how to use your own DSLR or Bridge camera. We appreciate that some students may not have a Digital SLR or want to upgrade from a bridge camera so we can loan you a Nikon with 18-270mm zoom lens for the course. This combintaion costs about £600 so there is a small charge of £25 to hire it for the course. We only have one spare camera and lens so please contact us first to ensure it is available then choose the Course and Camera Hire option below.
"Buying an expensive camera is a hard choice and I wasn't sure what to look for. Hiring a camera from Glen meant I could spend a whole day working out what I really wanted from my camera. It was really worthwhile to do this, and after the day Glen answered several questions, and helped me find a camera I wanted within the price range I could afford. Thanks so much!" Sarah Seaton.
Please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to attend a weekday Beginners Course.

Tamron 18-270mm Superzoom. One lens for every occasion
I'm a big fan of the Tamron 18-270mm Superzoom which will save you having to buy and carry two lenses plus save you money in the long run on additional camera bags and filters. There is also less chance of missing those important shots because you are changing lenses.

Q - What happens if it rains - Answer - We carry on regardless
Think of it this way. If you can take great photographs when it's cold , windy, dark and wet imagine what you can achieve when the sun comes out.
If we do have torrential rain we will pair you off and lend you a brolly. We have never had a course rained off and the last time we had a totally wet weekend the students actually came back with some of the best pictures we had seen on any course, which was quite amazing.
Cancellations - If you cancel
Our photography courses do tend to sell out quickly and are usually full. If you cancel up to two weeks before the course we can probably resell your place and you can book on a later course.
If you fail to turn up on the day we will have lost the revenue from your booking so no refund, or re-attendance, will be given.
Cancellation within 48 hours
This means it is unlikely we will be able to re-allocate your space and as such no refund is available. In extenuating circumstances, and at our discretion, you may be able to transfer to another course with available spaces at a later date.
What if we cancel?
To date we have never had to cancel a group course. In the unlikely event we need to cancel a course you will be offered a full refund or the chance to attend another course. If it should happen we promise to give you as much notice as possible and we will always aim to provide you with an alternative course where possible or a full or partial refund at our discretion. Refunds are limited the cost of the course and no additional payments will be made for travel or other expenses.
If you do not have a PayPal account or prefer to pay by credit or debit card then you can still do so at the checkout by choosing the "Pay without a PayPal account" option shown below.
I loved everything about this course. Glen was very patient and was always willing to answer the dumbest questions. I thoroughly enjoyed putting the theory into practice during the practical sessions. The course also had nice food in comfortable surroundings in a delightful village. Thank you to Glen and Jacqui. Denise Connor
As a complete beginner I found your course very informative, interesting and clearly explained from start to finish. I realise I have an awful lot to learn but I’m motivated to get out there and start practising. Many thanks. Jane Baker
Glen’s teaching skills were great and he was very patient. Before attending the course I was concerned I wouldn’t be able to keep up as I find learning about technical details quite difficult. I needn’t have worried as Glen made it easy to understand and proved that even beginners are able to take good photographs after just one day. Emma Anderton
Excellent Day. I was frustrated that I didn’t feel I grasped everything instantly but after practicing I felt much more confident being able to work at my own speed. This course has renewed my interest in photography.
Thoroughly enjoyable course with good content delivered very well.
Very useful and clear instruction. Just need a new lens now.
Learnt lots and can’t wait to go out and practice. Ruth Mitchell.
Nice easy pace. What always boggles my mind is just how many settings there are. Glen condenses this to a very few required settings which makes me far more confident going forward. Ian Colledge.
Excellent tuition and well paced. I’m happy to be finally of the Full Auto setting. Thank you. CT
Excellent! I can't believe I got my camera off Full Auto. Annette Campbell.
Excellent! My Photos will never be the same again. I just need to get plenty of practice until it becomes 2nd nature. I shall be back.
Excellent! Keep up the good work.
This course was really useful and everything was explained very well. I would definitely do another course and recommend to a friend. Beth
'I’m going to be recommending Glen to the other members of my camera club. I’ve attended his Beginners DSLR course, and learnt a great deal about my camera. I came away happy with more than half of the shots I took on the day - I’ve never managed that before! I’ll be booking again soon.'
I really enjoyed this course. The Big & Blurry technique is a revelation and I will be using it a lot. My camera will never be on Full Auto again and once I’ve had the chance to practise my new skills I’ll be back to learn more.
A great course for understanding the setting up of the camera taught in a very understanding manner. I would have no reservations in recommending this course to others.
A fantastic course with great explanations which really helped. I now understand so much more of the important aspects of my camera compared to using it on auto. Jade Smith.
Good stuff! Encouraging. Sean Baker
Thank you for an enjoyable and valuable day. Very well delivered. Rachel White
Very good value. It’s like I came away with a new camera. It will no longer be left in the cupboard. Richard Himan
Ready to go out and experiment and use my camera. Group just the right size with enough attention without feeling constantly under the spotlight. Simon Moran
I felt the content was delivered at just the right level. The little aide memoir was very useful. I need to get out and practise to embed the skills. I feel very encouraged and more confident in my abilities. Caroline Coppin
Great pace and I felt progression at every step. I’ve learnt some great photography tips and thoroughly enjoyed the day. I had been on a different company’s course previously but there was no comparison between the two. This one was much better. Helen Bason
A great day which was informal yet with easy to understand explanations and language. I would highly recommend this course to anyone looking to understand their camera better. Dale Rowe.
I'm an 18 year old student and I was worried about fitting in with the different age groups but everyone was very friendly and welcoming. This made me feel much more confident about taking photographs and I wasn't afraid to ask for any help. I loved my day and it was definitely worth flying over from Northern Ireland for the course.
Take a look at some of our prize winning photographers images here in the Press Room.
I’ve really enjoyed it and I’ll be back for more when I’ve mastered what I have learnt today. Jeanette Hill
A really very helpful course. I feel I can come off automatic. I really enjoyed the simple explanations and I came away with some not bad results too. Thanks.
